Holidaymakers warned on credit card charges

People in the UK thinking about heading on holiday are being urged to consider which credit card or debit card they plan to take to minimise charges.
According to Moneysupermarket, four million people taking an Easter break could end up paying more than £180 million in fees and charges if they dont carefully research their credit card.
The report revealed that travellers from the UK are set to spend an average of more than £500 on holiday, which could mean they pay significant amounts in foreign exchange fees.
“A credit card with purchase protection of 90 or more days is the best option for purchases overseas,” said Steve Willey from the price comparison site, adding that some credit cards dont charge exchange fees, which can be up to three per cent.
He added that anyone worried about overspending could consider taking a prepaid credit card, which only allow the holder to spend the money loaded onto the card.
A recent study from uSwitch revealed that people spend an average of £1,068 a year on holidays, compared to just £528 in 1997.
